April 7. Warrumbungles National Park

Siding Springs Observatory is in the Warrumbungles Mountains National Park which is full of Aussie wildlife and vegetation. We spent a day poking around.

April 6 . Poolside party at the motel

Our motel had a really nice gas grill (barbie) next to the pool. We all chipped in and put on a good feed. Dave Kriege cooked up some shish kabob.

April 6. Side trip to Siding Springs Observator

Today we visited Siding Springs Observatory, home of the largest telescope in Australia. I also saw my first kangaroo and emus.

Pile into the rental van and head for Coona. April 4

We picked up our rental van (with right hand drive) and head to Coonabarabran about 250 miles northwest of Sydney. We stopped along the way for lunch and a few times to stretch our legs.

April 3, 2005

Dave took off with a couple of our Aussie hosts to pick up a telescope for our use. Brian, Pat and I set out to explore Darling Harbour.

We start our trip, April 1, 2005

I flew from Appleton, WI to Cincinatti, then to Los Angeles. From I joined Brian Halbrook, Dave Kriege and his sister Pat. We boarded Qantas flight 8 for the 14 hour trip to Sydney, Australia. I left Appleton at 7 AM on Thursday and landed in Sydney at 8:35 PM on Friday. Someone took a day away from us when we crossed the International Date Line. I hope we get it back. We checked into the Holiday Inn near the Chinatown district in Sydney and got a good night's rest.
